Eric Schmidt's spots for the Billings Clinic

Eric Schmidt recently directed a couple of 60 second spots for the Billings Clinic in Bozeman, Montana.  He was asked to direct + shoot the stills of a handful of doctors at work and also doing what they love to do when they are not delivering babies.  He had a wonderful team working under his direction and appreciated his DP handing over the reigns (meaning The RED) whenever he asked.
Final product being delivered next week...

Mark Katzman | Fires, Fuel, & the Fate of 3 Billion published!

It is with pride that we're able to announce Mark Katzman's collaboration in the publication of  Fires, Fuel & the Fate of 3 Billion. The book began as an ambitious idea that was kicked around at a friend’s dinner party, and realized with the help of Gautum Yadama.  Gautam’s concept was to use the power of photography to help bring attention to the ‘complex nexus’ of the energy poverty crisis.

Inside small homes and huts throughout the developing world, billions of people burn fires in rudimentary stoves to prepare their meals and heat their homes. Besides providing heat, these stoves also release large amounts of dense black soot, which has a staggeringly negative impact on the health, ecosystems, and advancement of the poor in the developing world.

Photographed in communities of rural India, Mark shot a total of 28 days over two separate trips.   "Having this kind of access to beautiful & interesting tribal communities & being able to help them with my photography at the same time was a great gift." More information about the project can be found here.

Craig Calhoun, Director of the London School of Economics summed it up this way, “A beautiful example of why images deserve a more central place alongside statistics and words as crucial sources of social knowledge.”

Jonathan Chapman's new short film "Memory" featured on Motion Arts Pro

MEMORY is the latest short from Jonathan Chapman Photography ; a story that explores the relationship between a young couple amid the natural environs of Los Angeles' Runyon Canyon. The location was chosen for the varied terrain and unique proximity within the city.

Edited by Nathaniel Schmidt, the visuals are presented as a non-linear narrative leaving room for interpretation by the viewer. Schmidt states “The goal was to evoke pure natural emotion without a script. Creating a subtle story gives the viewer an interpretational meaning to take away. We aren't telling the viewer what to feel and think, rather giving them the ability to make a human connection. Some will love it and some won't care for it. That's the beauty of the creative process.”

Read more on Jonathan's blog Intrigue.

A special thanks to Motion Arts Pro for highlighting Jonathan's work!

Flashback Fridays! with Tibor Nemeth

Last week we kicked off a new weekly post featuring our photographers/directors from a "pre-digital" age.  This week's Flashback Friday post takes us to the year 2000, when Tibor Nemeth shot his first campaign with Arnold Worldwide & Royal Caribbean.  The client is still using a few images from that first shoot and Tibor couldn't be happier.   See more of his still photography & motion reels on his site.

Chris Sembrot's Urban Surfer Promo

You may remember when we first introduced Chris Sembrot's Urban Surfer's project, a series he started several months ago photographing people in the NY, NJ, Philly/PA areas.   Chris challenged himself with a specific set of criteria: Each subject must have their own board, wear whatever they want, and be willing to hit the water & be photographed by 6am. Each location is no more than a block from each subject's home.  The project has garnered enough attention that Chris felt it was time for a related promotional piece.

Giving as much thought to the packaging as he did the photography itself, Chris solicited two friends to help with the design of the logo and label. The result is a beautiful 27 page 7x7 book complete with a puck of wax.  A few days after distribution, he received an email from an art buyer who was on the receiving end... "... just got your promo (the wax will come in very handy for me!  8' longboard owner!)

Flashback Fridays.....

Flashback Fridays is a new blog series, featuring work from our photographers from a more "pre-digital age" (sounds downright Jurassic right?).

We will be posting older projects that we feel are worthy of a nostalgic repeat ... starting with this image taken by Paula.

Coming up next Friday, Tibor Nemeth's first assignment for a client he still works with today! Stay tuned...
