Jonathan Chapman for United Health Group

We are now able to share work shot by Jonathan last summer for  Hunt Adkins  & their client - United Health Group.  The creative team concepted visuals for a recruitment lifestyle piece, centered around a select group of superstar employees of United Health GroupJonathan photographed 2 scenarios for each employee; one illustrating their work life and the other representing an active experience they excelled at during their personal time.
Both images had to feel iconic in nature, demonstrating that the top employees at UHG work hard and play hard with equal amounts of balance and poise in their lives.  The result is imagery that illustrates heroic, knowledgeable and strong, yet approachable as members of the greater team.

The project took JCP & crew to many locations in and around the Minneapolis area including various UHG campus environments to create the custom imagery for nearly 20 employees.

Stay tuned for updates to the portfolio, film reel, and the next iteration of the Newsprint promo!

Carl Tremblay's Ice Harvest

Every winter, long after the last guests have departed, a ritual takes place at Rockywold Deephaven Camps -- the harvesting of lake ice.  If you've never heard of it, it's because it's off the beaten path, on the shores of Squam Lake in New Hampshire.  Luckily, Carl was able to witness & photograph this annual event that upholds tradition & sometimes involves multiple generations.

When the ice becomes eleven or twelve inches thick (usually in late January or February), approximately 200 tons of ice are taken from the lake by a crew that includes many who have done the job for decades by sons, father's and grandfather's.  The ice will fill the cottage ice boxes in the summer, keeping a live a connection between the camps and the natural environment that surrounds them.

The ice blocks are 16" x 19" x ice depth & weigh between 120 and 160 pounds each.  An estimated 2800 total blocks are stored in two icehouses, and are insulated by sawdust (enabling them to stay frozen until after the last RDC guest leaves in September).

Who knew?

Jeffrey Lamont Brown's BJ's Commercial

Jeffrey Lamont Brown & Tallgrass Pictures wrapped their 2nd TV commercial shoot with BJ’s restaurants.  The challenge.....get 10 shots in one shoot day, with every shot having several moving parts including pyrotechnics, steam mechanics, & ingredients falling from the sky!

It took the complete effort of 14 team members, but they did it!  The spot will air in selected markets in the US on March 17th… keep your eyes peeled!

Shaun Fenn's Surfer Portraits featured on Liquid Salt

©Shaun Fenn

“Surfing is a special kind of madness, a feeling for the sea, a combination of love, knowledge, respect, fear- instinctive perception gained through repeated contact.”
-Tom Curren - three time World Surfing Champion

Locals and Legends is a series of over 50 portraits taken by photographer Shaun Fenn of the many personalities that inhabit the San Onofre surfing area. Some are legends, some just regulars – but all have an interesting story and are full of stoke.  The work is a collaboration between Shaun & Glenn Sakamoto, of the online pub Liquid Salt.

This project was very close to Shaun's heart since he grew up in Dana Point and spent time surfing Lower Trestles.  Many of the locals were household names Shaun knew from growing up, and with the help of Barry Haun and Dick Metz from the Surfing Heritage Museum in San Clemente, they compiled an organic list of individuals that surely had to be part of the project.

With any personal project, there are a variety of emotions a photographer goes through when creating the work.  Read more about Shaun's focus, passion, & perseverance in the interview on Liquid Salt.

Jonathan Chapman - Lake Superior Motion

Jonathan & his daughter headed "up north" to Northern Minnesota for a weekend cabin retreat on the shore of Lake Superior.  In Jonathan's words, "It’s a destination that signifies something that is hard to put into words.  It seems it’s what it lacks that pulls you in, more so than what it offers.  Regardless of ones motive, the possibilities are endless amid the wilderness and waters of our some 10,000 plus lakes."

We love the video he captured, edited by NathanielSchmidt, against an audio track that quiets and compliments the wind, waves, and turbulent nature of the footage.

Shaun Fenn on Location
